5Rhythms is a movement practice where music, body and attention meet. No choreography. No steps to learn. No right way to move.
Every Thursday evening. A regular space to move, practice and come back to your body.
5Rhythms was created by Gabrielle Roth, an American dancer, musician, author and teacher who spent decades exploring the relationship between movement, consciousness and the human experience. From that work emerged a simple movement map built around five rhythms: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. Together, they form a Wave.
There are no steps to learn and no choreography to follow. The rhythms are five different qualities of movement that we explore through the body. Music guides the journey. Your body finds its own movement. You can arrive tired, restless, curious, joyful, disconnected, completely new to dance, or simply needing somewhere to move. You start from there.
Gabrielle Roth spent her life developing and sharing this practice, leaving behind a movement map that continues to be explored on dance floors around the world. Everything I teach begins with her work.
Becoming a 5Rhythms teacher is not the end of my learning, but a deeper commitment to it. The more I teach and move this practice, the more I discover how much there is still to explore.
I remain a lifetime student of 5Rhythms, with deep gratitude to Gabrielle Roth for the map she created, the practice she devoted her life to, and the path she opened for all of us who continue to move within it.
I spent much of my life in two seemingly different worlds. One was music, as a DJ and music producer. The other was technology, building products, leading teams and working inside complex organizations.
5Rhythms brought those worlds together. What began as a personal practice became an ongoing exploration of movement, presence and what happens when we stop trying to figure everything out with our heads.
Today, I teach 5Rhythms and create safe spaces where people can move without choreography, performance or expectation. Music and movement are a central part of my work. I build each Wave as a journey, but what happens inside it belongs to the people on the floor.
"5Rhythms gives me a space to meet myself exactly where I am. I never know what the dance will bring, but I always leave with something shifted."
"The music took me places I wasn't expecting to go. Every time I thought I knew where the Wave was heading, something shifted."
"I was nervous because I don't consider myself a dancer. There was nothing to get right, and that gave me the freedom to just be there."
You don't need dance experience. You don't need to know the 5Rhythms. You don't need to prepare. Come as you are.
